Story by Mat Lee
They said, “At the end of the day, the product is not bad, but the hardware is kind of garbage to us.” After that realization, they started creating their own atomizers and cartridges in house. (One of the guys even went back to school to learn computer-aided drafting (CAD) and 3D rendering.) I got to see a bunch of these during the interview, and I have to tell you, they are super cool.
The main selling point for these tailor-made atomizers, is the anti-leak valve on the bottom. The failure rate in the industry for normal cartridges is anywhere between three and 10 percent. Vaporous says that in the testing they’ve done so far, they have a failure rate of less than one percent. They also say they have some new technology coming soon that will lower it even more. Their goal is to get the failure rate to under 0.4%.
They also have a kit that comes with a vaporizer cartridge cover, which eliminates the need for one of those silly plastic mouthpieces that always falls off in your pocket. You can also just buy a cartridge cover, assuming you already have their Flow Series 350 mAh adjustable temperature battery. This is just one of the more than 16 patents these guys own.
For those of you who want a larger Mod battery, they took one of those, and put it into a 14 mm form. If you check out the YouTube video on their channel here, you can see the sort of clouds a battery like this can produce, when paired with the right material.
They claim that the other differentiator is the fact that they aren’t using a polymer sleeve inside their cartridges. I’m not too sure of the science here, but I believe the polymer would have to off gas at a certain temperature in order to be inhaled. That is, of course, unless the terpenes or the oil you are vaping happen to have some sort of property that pulls something not so nice out of the polymer. At this point, it’s probably better to be safe than sorry.
These guys do everything from scratch and have their own in-house CnC work. It’s a great way to make sure you obtain the necessary patents. All it takes is some expensive equipment, and a smart, well-rounded group of individuals to run it.
You can get dishes in all three options, as we’re starting to see in this market. I like that other companies are embracing that now. Vaporous has set their prices very competitively, especially considering they do all this work in-house. They say they can create a custom vaporizer from scratch within 30 days. You just need to provide the idea, including what heating element, cartridge system, battery power, and any other component you want incorporated into the design.
They showed us a cool prototype they just finished working on for a customer who has an exclusive deal with Sharper Image. He was so impressed by the Vaporous technology engineer guy, that he wanted to put their guts into his housing.
Vaporous also has what they call a Cap Management System. Are you sick of your wax or oil leaking out of your dab pen? I sure am! With this patented system, that is no longer an issue. Also included in the system is a carb cap-like system that controls air flow.
They say, “The cool thing about this with the cap management system right here, [is that] the smoke comes back up, hits the plate, goes back down, and then you actually taste more of the terpenes and whatnot.” Unlike all the other pens available, they say their closed air system is the only one out there. For good reason, they also own the patent on that.
